Skills and Capabilities
Programming and Digital Integration
There is a lot more to programming than writing code. It takes a special breed of programmers who have the experience, skills and knowledge to get projects done correctly. It is about asking the right questions and making sure what is created meets your business goals and processes. Don’t hire a coder, hire a web professional.
Debugging and Troubleshooting
Performance issues, downtime, bugs. deprecated code, outdated software and security issues can arise for a variety of reasons. Going through thousands of lines of code, integrated databases, software and server infrastructure for solutions takes a team that is experienced. Without the skills and knowledge necessary, debugging and troubleshooting websites and web server issues will at best take too long and cost too much. At worst, it will be done incorrectly and lead to further issues.
Server Hosting and Infrastucture
There is a lot more to hosting than picking a plan at a hosting provider. Options beyond shared hosting, Virtual Private Servers (VPS) and Dedicated Servers should seriously be considered. Such as performance, redundancy, backup, security, firewalls, disaster recovery, Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) and SYN Flood mitigation, load balancing and more.
Security and Firewalls
Signing up for a hosting plan isn’t enough to make sure your website is secure. The server you are on needs to be kept up to date along with your website software. Having SSL doesn’t mean you’re secure either. Server and software vulnerabilities and misconfigurations can lead to SQL injections, cross-site scripting (XSS), cross-site request forgery (CSRF) and other security issues. Adding a firewall is also highly recommended.
Website Performance and Optimization
Your website’s primary purpose is to deliver information, resources and product sales to visitors. The performance of your site can determine whether those visitors stick around or not. It can also determine your ranking with search engines. Loading time, responsiveness (mobile and tablet friendly), ease of use and other factors can make a big difference. Your website design, content and your server (host) can impact your site’s performance.
Database Administration and Optimization
Many websites and eCommerce engines run on the back of databases. Your business or organization relies on big data to meet your goals and to perform processes that make you successful. Database failure and downtime can put your business on hold and a loss of data can cause irreparable damage. Proper administration and optimization can keep your sites and services run smooth and provide your business and visitors with an experience they expect.
